The technique for preserving wood is simple:
1. Soaked
One of them requires a tub or water reservoir whose length must match the length of the wood to be soaked. Rural residents usually use the river as a place for soaking. Another problem, soaked wood will change color to be a bit dull. In addition, soaking also causes wood to smell bad. Soaked wood is anti-corrosion or powder, but not always termite-resistant. The method of preservation by soaking is less practical when wood processing must be done as soon as possible.
2. Smoked
Apart from soaking, wood preservation can also be done by smoking. You do this by blowing smoke directly on the wood surface continuously. This technique then developed into the oven.
Simple smoking is often done by rural residents by placing logs, which will be used for building materials or furniture, on a cooking stove in the kitchen where firewood is used as fuel. Wood that is exposed to smoke directly and regularly for a certain period of time is guaranteed to be resistant to termites, powder, mold or decay, as well as other wood insects.
3. Basting
The most practical preservation technique that is currently widely used is the application of preservatives. The trick is to apply a preservative on the entire surface of the wood. Preservatives can be manufactured, you can also use simple ingredients that are easy to get without having to buy.
Simple preservatives that are often used by rural communities, for example, used oil, kerosene mixed with urea and also a mixture of coconut dregs and vinegar. Indeed, not all topical preservatives are safe for health or environmentally friendly. Of the many spreads, the one considered the most environmentally friendly is a concoction of coconut dregs with vinegar.
